Tucker Carlson cannot grasp that mocking Islam isn’t mocking faith in general

Tucker Carlson recently went on a tirade against Donald Trump, reacting to a truth social post Trump sent out on Easter morning. The post included vulgar language and the phrase “praise be to Allah.” Tucker called this behavior evil, claiming that no decent person mocks the religion of another person.

He went even further by saying that mocking any faith is an attack on the very idea of faith itself. This logic is completely broken and just downright silly.Faith is not a singular concept that deserves universal protection. The idea that all religions are equal is a lie, that just isn’t how the world works. Some belief systems are fundamentally different from others and we must be able to judge them based on their own merits.

Tucker says that a president should never mock Islam. He claims it is not the job of a leader, a bizarre stance to take. Some religions contain ideas that are objectively absurd. Humor is a necessary tool for pointing out those inconsistencies. It is a way to speak the truth when people are afraid of being offensive.

Islam is a perfect example of why mockery is a valid response. We are expected to stay silent about the life of Muhammad, who married a literal child. We are supposed to ignore the accounts of the thirty men of Al-Zutt who came to “ride the messenger of Allah” (yes, it means exactly what you think it does). These stories are part of the record, and they are worthy of ridicule.

It is dishonest to put these beliefs on the same level as Christianity, their moral foundations are entirely different. The historical records are different, and yet Tucker claims that mocking Islam is an insult to every Christian. He is wrong. Most Christians can see the difference between their own faith and the one of the pedophile prophet.

We should stop pretending that every religion deserves the same amount of respect, it is okay to admit that some things are simply worthy of mockery. We should have the courage to say so. Tucker wants us to believe that faith is some protected monolith. Give me a break with that forced equality.
