The Trump administration marked the annual “March for Life” event in Washington, D.C., with dual messages honoring the value and dignity of human life in a post-Roe nation.
“Today, we uphold the eternal truth that every human being is created in the holy image and likeness of God, blessed with infinite worth and boundless potential,” the president stated in a proclamation honoring “National Sanctity of Human Life Day.”
He continued, “We celebrate the heroic leaders, parents, students, and everyday citizens — including those gathering for the March for Life in Washington, D.C., this weekend — who have courageously advocated for the most vulnerable and stood up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. As President, I pledge to always be a voice for the voiceless and to never tire in fighting to protect the intrinsic dignity of every child, born and unborn.”
In June 2022, federal protection for abortion, once the law of the land in Roe v. Wade, was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court, thus returning the hotly debated issue to the sovereign states.
Vice President Vance delivered in-person remarks at the March for Life event in D.C. on Friday, bringing fiery and uplifting remarks to a robustly pro-life crowd.
“In the ancient pagan world, discarding children was routine,” he said. “From the skeletons in brothels to the child sacrifice of the Mayans, the mark of barbarism is that we treat babies like inconveniences to be discarded rather than the blessings to cherish that they are. But the inheritance of our civilization is something else: the fact that a Scripture tells us each life is fearfully and wonderfully made by our Creator.”
The vice president said that the United States was essentially at a crossroads, noting that the March for Life was “about whether we remain a civilization under God or whether we ultimately return to the paganism that dominated the past.”
Currently, abortion is a protected right in 25 states. At least 11 states (like California) currently offer “expanded access” to abortion services for women. At least 13 states have made the practice illegal, while 12 others have implemented laws banning the procedure after a specific gestational age.
