The case against John Cornyn

Texas Republicans face a defining choice that extends far beyond a single Senate seat. It is a fundamental question of direction for the state and the party. While Ken Paxton carries his own set of complexities and public criticisms, the contrast between him and John Cornyn is impossible to ignore. For those who prioritize the America First movement, the decision is clear.

Cornyn has spent decades positioning himself as a reliable establishment figure. However, that reliability has rarely extended to the populist wing of the Republican party. Most notably, his actions following the 2020 election signaled a clean break from the base. When the movement needed stalwarts to stand firm, Cornyn chose a different path. This lack of alignment makes the prospect of a Trump endorsement for Cornyn seem like a strategic mismatch. If the goal is to advance a specific legislative agenda, picking a candidate who has historically kept that agenda at arm’s length is counterproductive.

On the other hand, Paxton represents a direct challenge to the status quo. Even those with doubts about his candidacy recognize that he operates in a different lane than the senior Senator. He has consistently fought the legal and political battles that the base cares about most. In a head-to-head matchup, the perfect candidate is often less important than the correct candidate for the current moment.

Texas deserves a representative who does not just occupy a seat.

The state needs someone who actively fights for the principles of the movement. Cornyn has had his time, and his record shows exactly where his loyalties lie. If the Republican party is to move forward, it cannot do so by looking back toward the establishment. Say no to Cornyn because the future of the party requires a fighter. It does not need a career politician who disappears when the stakes are highest.
