President Trump says Israel and Iran are considering a ceasefire

The situation in the Middle East has remained fluid since the launch of the Iran war in late February. Now, President Trump says Iran and Israel may be ready to stop fighting.

President Donald Trump said early Monday morning that Israel and Iran were considering calling it quits on attacking each other, amid an ongoing pattern of violence in the Middle East.

“Both sides, Israel and Iran, are looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE!” the president wrote on Truth Social.

He continued, “Final negotiations on ‘Peace’ are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way. The Blockade will remain in place, and in full force and effect, until a ‘Final Deal’ is reached. Things should move quickly.”

This new comment was published several hours after President Trump wrote a simple but singular statement on Truth Social: “Israel and Iran must immediately stop ‘shooting.’”

Things between Israel and Iran heated up as the weekend ended, as the two nations traded attacks. According to The New York Times, Iran initially attacked Israel as an act of retaliation following Israel’s ongoing aggression toward Lebanon. This has remained a difficult sticking point in negotiations, prompting frustration even from President Trump.

In a leaked phone call from the Oval Office, Axios revealed President Trump’s alleged comments to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week, calling the Middle Eastern leader “f*cking crazy” over the ceaseless violence in Lebanon.

The president later confirmed that these comments were authentic during an interview with Miranda Devine. “I was a little perturbed at [him] constantly fighting with Lebanon,” you know,” he remarked. “At some point I said, ‘Bibi, we gotta stop this.’”

A fragile ceasefire has been tenuously holding the Middle East together since early April, but there have been multiple instances of missile, drone, and sea attacks within the scope of the ceasefire – but apparently not enough to render the ceasefire null and void.

“No deal is required for us to just walk away,” said Joe Kent, the former director of the National Counterterrorism Center. “It’s evident that we can’t stop either side from attacking the other. There is only one realistic choice we have—stay & get sucked further into the war or look out for our interests & just walk.”
