President Trump’s pick for the next Chairman of the Federal Reserve is Kevin Warsh, a former member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
“I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Kevin Warsh to be the CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM,” the president announced on Friday in a Truth Social post.
The surprising pick came amid speculation that the president would nominate Kevin Hassett, the current Director of the Economic Council of the United States.
“Their [sic] was great speculation that highly respected Kevin Hassett was going to be named Chairman of the Fed, and a great Chairman he would have been but, quite honestly, he is doing such an outstanding job working with me and my team at the White House, that I just didn’t want to let him go,” the president explained, addressing the rumors.
Who is Kevin Warsh, the current nominee?
“Kevin currently serves as the Shepard Family Distinguished Visiting Fellow in Economics at the Hoover Institution, and Lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business,” the president said in his statement. “He is a Partner of Stanley Druckenmiller at Duquesne Family Office LLC. Kevin received his A.B. from Stanford University, and J.D. from Harvard Law School.”
Mr. Warsh was sworn in as a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in 2006 and departed the board in 2011. Prior to his time on the Fed Board, Warsh joined the administration of former President George W. Bush, serving as a special assistant to the president for economic policy and executive secretary at the National Economic Council.
“I have known Kevin for a long period of time, and have no doubt that he will go down as one of the GREAT Fed Chairmen, maybe the best,” President Trump revealed. “On top of everything else, he is ‘central casting,’ and he will never let you down.”
Current Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s term ends in May. To begin his role as the next chairman, Mr. Warsh will need to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
