President Trump doubles down on SAVE America Act

The president said on Friday that he will continue to refuse to sign a bipartisan housing bill until the election integrity legislation is passed.

President Donald Trump on Friday drew a line in the political sand over U.S. Senate lawmakers’ inability to pass the SAVE America Act – key legislation that would codify voter ID and proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections.

“I will not sign the Housing Bill, which has been fully approved by Congress and sent to the White House, in PROTEST over the fact that the United States Senate is not capable of passing THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, which is polling at 97% with the Republican Party, and very high with the non-politician Dumocrats,” President Trump fired off in a Friday statement.

The “Housing Bill” the president referred to is the ROAD to Housing Act, which was passed in the Senate and House in June. It was set to be signed by the president last month, but he canceled the signing then, too, out of protest over the SAVE America Act.

“THE SAVE AMERICA ACT’S non-passage is CRAZY, and a serious threat to any politician who votes against it!” President Trump continued. “If the Dumocrats, or any RINO (or worse!) working with them, do not allow a positive Vote on SAVE AMERICA, TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, and pass this, and every other Bill that true Republicans have ever dreamt of (In addition to the upcoming Budget BOMB and the 1929 catastrophic style DEBT CEILING BILL!).”

As reported by LindellTV, the SAVE America Act has been unable to pass the Senate due to the Republicans’ hesitancy to “nuke the filibuster.” This means that the endless debate on the bill could be ended and sent to the floor for a simple majority vote – but only if the Senate were to drop the cloture requirement from 60 votes.

This process is extremely difficult to achieve, as it would require Republicans to work together to strategically reset those requirements. However, it would also set a new precedent that would allow either party – depending on who is in power – to push legislation through much faster.

In his statement, President Trump argued that Republicans should terminate the filibuster in light of his belief that Democrats will do it anyway.

He concluded, “The Dumocrats will TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, if and when they ever get the chance to do so, in their very first hour – And I will no longer be able to call them Dumocrats again! The title of DUMB will revert to the Republicans who allowed this horrible calamity to happen to our Party, and our Nation, itself!”
