President Trump announces talks with Iran

The president paused a critical deadline on Monday morning amid talks with the Iranian regime, he said, stretching the timeline out for another five days

President Donald Trump on Monday morning announced that the United States is in conversation with the Iranian regime, leading him to pause his threat to “obliterate” the nation’s power infrastructure.

“I AM PLEASED TO REPORT THAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND THE COUNTRY OF IRAN, HAVE HAD, OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS, VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS REGARDING A COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF OUR HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The president said that, based on the “TENOR AND TONE OF THESE IN DEPTH, DETAILED, AND CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS, WHICH WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK,” he had directed the Department of War to delay strikes on power plants and energy infrastructure within Iran for the next five days, pending the outcome of these discussions.

This comes after the president on Saturday announced a 48-hour deadline for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz fully, otherwise face the destruction of power plants nationwide, “STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!”

These newly announced talks are a glimmer of hope amid what has been an otherwise very violent conflict overseas. There is also the added complexity of the United States’ working relationship with its joint military partner in this operation, Israel.

Despite President Trump’s announcement of negotiations with Iran on Monday morning, the Israeli Air Force stated that it nevertheless proceeded with “another wave of strikes targeting infrastructure of the Iranian terror regime across Tehran.”

This newly launched wave of attacks also follows a bloody weekend between Iran and Israel as the nations lobbed missiles at each other, including an Iranian strike on Dimona – dangerously close to Israel’s nuclear site, in retaliation, allegedly for an Israeli strike on the Iranian enrichment site at Natanz.

It remains to be seen if Israel’s military action against Iran amid negotiations will hurt talks.

On Iran’s part, the Iranian regime has officially – and expectedly – denied that any such diplomatic negotiations with the United States are underway, but that says very little, given the Iranian regime’s propensity for propaganda.

“We want to see no nuclear bomb, no nuclear weapon – not even close to it – low key on the missiles; we want to see peace in the Middle East,” President Trump said on Monday morning before boarding Air Force One. “…If this happens, it’s a great start for Iran to build itself back, and it’s everything that we want, and it’s also great for Israel, and it’s great for the other Middle Eastern countries.”
