President Donald Trump has vowed to immediately address vandalism perpetrated on the freshly renovated Lincoln Reflecting Pool, following the recent arrests of several individuals allegedly linked to defacing the memorial.
“Work will begin immediately on fixing the seriously vandalized Reflecting Pool,” the president wrote on Truth Social on Sunday. “I just inspected it, and could only say to myself, and those gathered around me, WOW, who would do such a thing? SICK, DERANGED PEOPLE! We will fix it?”
The president on Saturday had preceded this statement by confirming that “many additional people have been arrested having to do with the disgraceful vandalism of our beautiful Reflecting Pool.”
President Trump also revealed that he had met with contractors over the weekend, announcing that the pool would likely have to be drained again to complete necessary repairs following the damage.
According to ABC News, five individuals allegedly linked to the vandalism in D.C. were arrested over the weekend, with another five reportedly receiving citations.
“Of the MANY Statues and Fountains that we rebuilt, renovated, cleaned, and fixed, the only one that was Vandalized was the Reflecting Pool, which is being taken care of, ASAP!” President Trump said on Monday.
He continued, “It has been given a 300 foot long gash, chemicals have been illegally placed in the water, and the beautiful new grass field has been destroyed with a gigantic 86 47 chemically carved into it (Probably inspired by Dirty Cop, James Comey!).”
The president was referencing former FBI Director James Comey, who was indicted in April 2026 on charges related to allegedly making threats to harm President Donald Trump by posting a troubling photo on social media with the caption “86 47,” a generally recognized term for harming the 47th president.
President Trump reminded troublemakers in his statement on Truth Social that destroying government property could potentially result in up to ten years in prison upon conviction.
