When hatred informs your politics more than Jesus
Op-Ed | By Easton Martin | January 29, 2026
It is no secret that the disdain for Donald Trump goes far beyond varying opinions on tax brackets or foreign policy. It is visceral, genuine hate. It has reached a point where even some within the Republican party likely harbor dark wishes for his demise. But the most disturbing element isn’t the politics; it is the hypocrisy of those who profess to be Christians while holding this hatred in their hearts.
Let’s be brutally honest: you cannot claim to follow the teachings of Scripture while genuinely wishing death upon a man just because you dislike his politics.
The Bible is not ambiguous on this subject. There is no loophole in the Gospel that justifies hatred simply because the target is a polarizing figure. When you claim to follow Christ but harbor a desire for someone’s destruction, you are directly ignoring the teachings of Jesus.
You can try to mask this animosity as “righteous indignation” or political necessity, but those are just flimsy excuses. When you let your ideology reach the point where you are wishing for the end of a human life, you aren’t fighting a noble political battle anymore. You are simply exposing the truth of your own condition.
Stop hiding behind politics. If you wish death on someone over your silly political ideas, the problem isn’t the politician. The problem is a hateful heart.
