Minneapolis Mayor has meltdown that is emblematic of his city

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey abandoned all semblance of professional decorum on Wednesday, launching a vulgar tirade against Vice President JD Vance on the X platform. Responding to Vance’s critique regarding the safety of federal law enforcement officers in the city, Frey did not offer a policy defense or a substantive rebuttal. Instead, he resorted to crude internet trolling, telling the Vice President of the United States to “Go f*** a couch.”

This outburst marks a pathetic low point for the mayor. Rather than addressing the serious allegation that federal agents do not feel safe calling 911 in his city, Frey chose to lower the office of the mayor to the level of a comment section troll. The display was unprofessional and revealed a shocking lack of leadership.

In his haste to deflect, Frey inadvertently admitted he has lost control of his own force, stating that the Minneapolis Police Department “would never follow an order from me” even if he gave one.

Citizens expect their executives to handle pressure with dignity and command. Frey’s response was a petulant meltdown that embarrassed his constituents. The fact is, Frey’s city is metaphorically on fire. He has lost control not only of his temper, but of his city.
