Jasmine Crockett takes aim at first lady over EB-1 visa

In a House Judiciary Committee meeting on immigration integrity, security, and enforcement held Wednesday, Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett took aim at the First Lady.

Crockett said:

“Let me remind y’all that Melania—the First Lady—a model. And when I say model, I’m not talking Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford, or Naomi Campbell-level, applied for and was given an EB-1 visa.”

She then listed some of the qualifications required for the EB-1 visa, concluding that the First Lady “had none of those accolades under her belt.”

Crockett ended her argument with the phrase:

 “The math ain’t mathin’.”

However, Melania Trump appears to have met the qualifications at the time of her visa application in 2001. According to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, applicants must satisfy at least 3 of the following 10 criteria to qualify for an EB-1 visa:

EB-1 visa requirements

Evidence of receipt of lesser nationally or internationally recognized prizes or awards for excellence

Evidence of membership in associations in the field that demand outstanding achievement of their members

Evidence of published material about the applicant in professional or major trade publications or other major media

Evidence that the applicant has been asked to judge the work of others, either individually or on a panel

Evidence of original scientific, scholarly, artistic, athletic, or business-related contributions of major significance

Evidence of authorship of scholarly articles in professional or major trade publications or other major media

Evidence that work has been displayed at artistic exhibitions or showcases

Evidence of performance in a leading or critical role in distinguished organizations

Evidence of commanding a high salary or other significantly high remuneration compared to others in the field

Evidence of commercial successes in the performing arts
