Former President Bill Clinton’s testimony before the House Oversight Committee in Chappaqua, New York – an anticipated deposition that comes on the heels of his wife’s meeting with lawmakers on Thursday – has drawn national attention.

The former president’s relationship with the late and disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein is the focal point of this deposition. Neither President Clinton nor his wife has been formally accused of any wrongdoing.

Ahead of his deposition, Clinton’s team published his prepared statement online.

“I had no idea of the crimes Epstein was committing,” the statement said. “No matter how many photos you show me, I have two things that at the end of the day matter more than your interpretation of those 20-year-old photos. I know what I saw, and more importantly, what I didn’t see. I know what I did, and more importantly, what I didn’t do. I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong.”

In his prepared statement, Clinton said he “saw nothing that ever gave me pause” and argued that Epstein hid his double life of crime “so well for so long.” He also said that by the time Epstein made a guilty plea in 2008 (related to soliciting a minor for prostitution), he had already “long stopped associating with him.”

Clinton additionally made an argument for the protection of his wife, saying she had “nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein” and alleging that she “has no memory of even meeting him.”

“Whether you subpoenaed 10 people or 10,000, including her was simply not right,” Clinton’s statement read.

With millions of documents released in the latest “Epstein Files” drop, Americans have been wondering how Epstein operated his shadowed trafficking network for so long without getting caught. There has also been tremendous speculation about who was involved, and whether many high-profile individuals – including world leaders – knew about it.

During his deposition, former President Clinton apparently noted that President Donald Trump, to his knowledge, had also done nothing wrong as it pertained to Epstein.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer told the press on Friday that Clinton testified under oath that President Trump “has never said anything to me to make me think he was involved [with Epstein].”
